Mina tragedy: Testimonies from the field

People fall for help '- Tchima Illa Issoufou, BBC Hausa Service
"People are moving toward the mound jumrah, while others come from the opposite direction. Then the situation became chaotic and suddenly people started falling. There were pilgrims from Nigeria, Niger, Chad, and Senegal and some other countries. They exchanged climbing from one another in order to move to a safe place and that is why many people were killed.
"People call on God's name while others were crying, including children and babies. They fell to the ground asking for help but no one helped.
"They like to save yourself. We share the loss of a group. I lost my aunt and, then, two women from our group - mother and daughter - is missing."'The body as far as the eye can see' - Bashir Sa'ad Abdullahi, BBC
"From where I stand, here in the center of Mina, I could see bodies covered in white cloth. The police had barricaded the area so I can not count the number, but it looks bodies as far as my eyes could see.
"This happens when thousands of pilgrims from various countries such as Iran, Cameroon, Ghana, and Niger will throw jumroh. So, those who had just finished throwing stones back in the same direction, collided with the new assembly which will throw stones.
"There was a collision between two groups that move in the opposite direction on the same road. They are trapped in tengahlah most affected."'Road closed for the King of Saudi haj' - the British doctor who refused to be named
"Last night, I had just returned from Muzdalifa to Jamarat with my family ride the train. We arrived at the station earlier than the others and his train was delayed. Finally, there are a lot of people gathered at the station. When the train arrives on the hour 02 am, there was chaos when worshipers tired of trying to rise.
"On the way, the train stopped somewhere, somewhere, for half an hour. People began to fret and some tried to open the emergency gate for all of asphyxiation due to heat and exhaustion. Finally we reached the Jamarat and after throwing rocks, we go and heard a few hours later that this tragedy occurred.
"I then knew why the train is delayed. That is because the Saudi king perform the Hajj and they do not want anyone else to go to Mecca. They stopped the train and closed the road. And when he finished, everyone is trying to get together."'Security is more than enough' - Taheer Age of Dewsbury, England
"The setting up of the Saudi government is incredible. We can not blame them. There was a lot of anticipation safeguards do. I've been on the pilgrimage several times in the last 20 years. This year I came with my wife, son, daughter, and mother-in-law ,
From what I saw on the field, in the last 10 days, there is a very nice setting of the Saudi government. We can not blame them ...

"I saw a man fainted because of the heat and fatigue, and 10 medical staff immediately came running to help. In every escalator there were people who helped them were exhausted. Step security was already more than enough. In fact I would say it is excessive."
